Mel’s story: From aged care to her own apartment
20 September 2022
Mel spent a year in aged care before moving into Specialist Disability Accommodation with the support of a team of InLife support workers.
InLife will be the on-site provider for residents at 10 new apartments in Melbourne’s south-east.
When you think of a concierge service you might typically associate it with a hotel.
But rather than ring a bell for reception, the InLife “concierge” services come with full disability support.
Recently, we were awarded the contract to provide 24/7 onsite support services to 10 new apartments at Glenarm Square in Glen Iris.
This marks InLife’s third contract with the amazing Summer Housing, which works to get young people out of aged care and into their own homes.
InLife Executive Client Service Manager Dianne Rhodes said it was “an honour” to be selected by tenants of the new Summer Housing apartments to provide the concierge service.
She said the concierge role was filled by a trained disability support worker whose tasks could be diverse as personal care to helping with groceries or domestic tasks.
Crucially, they are available at any time of the day or night, so are always there as back-up support for residents.
“It’s really awesome to be able to collaborate on the great options that Summer Housing offers individuals,” Dianne said.
“It’s a great opportunity to support people to live that very independent life of choice that apartment living offers."
The Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) apartments at Glen Iris are single-level and have been designed to achieve Platinum level certification under Livable Housing Design Guidelines.
They meet either High Physical Support or Fully Accessible design requirements under the NDIS.
InLife also provides the same type of concierge service at Summer Housing’s The Spencer in West Melbourne and The Empress in Williamstown.
